It's difficult for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and previously enjoyed 1,294 days undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the peak baggers, are all that remain for a team that has achieved everything.

The fact it required up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batters to possess a record if not provided the opportunity.

Finally, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy getting a chance to create her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory happened three months after her first appearance and seven international trophies have followed from 10 efforts across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort can be debated.

Certain people claim the case for the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's definite is this century was considerably tougher to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she led the batting statistics, but this performance came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"For those following me in training, it has been a frustrating experience because it appeared I've had no rhythm completely," commented Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your fighting spirit activate and you completely engage with the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from there the right-hander was on her way.

"An opportunity to play and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," stated Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the World Cup - and her century in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

Once she was out the team required another 66 at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I'm happy we have the assurance to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, if we do, we know we can achieve it."

Those words will be the final thing competing nations at this World Cup need to hear.

During the last week a belief they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this victory following victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite sitting at 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they left last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she later said she regretted not playing despite the injury.

However although she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as captain.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her last major obstacle.
